The Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Vienna is offering a fully funded PhD position in the field of Continuous Optimization with applications in Machine Learning, Optimal Transport, Randomized Linear Algebra, and related areas.
The specific research project will be developed collaboratively with the selected candidate, allowing for flexibility to align with your interests and expertise.
Location: University of Vienna, Faculty of Mathematics
Duration: 3–4 years (full-time contract)
Salary: approx. 2700 EUR per month (gross).
Supervisor: Yura Malitsky
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with the following qualifications:
Strong background in linear algebra, analysis, and probability theory.
Good programming skills, preferably in Python or Julia.
Proficiency in English (both written and spoken).
Prior research experience in optimization, machine learning, or related fields is a plus but not mandatory.
